1. What are the benefits of coaching?

Coaching is all about moving forward! When a client chooses to hire a coach they are making a commitment to themselves and are ready to make changes in their life. The coach is there to help them with new ideas and perspectives and to be an unattached thinking and accountability partner. It is the commitment to self, the new possibilities and the support that help the client to make changes and move forward in their life. The changes can take place in all areas of life including relationships, health, career, organization of time and home space and much more.

2. What are the differences between coaching and therapy?

Coaching is for those who have accepted their past and choose to focus on their present and future. The clients take responsibility for themselves, their actions, successes and failures and benefit from accountability. Coaches are unattached to the outcome while they help clients to enhance their lives and evolve. They see in their clients both the strengths and the areas in need of development. Coaches are trained to support the client as they come up with their own answers and take steps to achieve a desired outcome.
Therapy is for clients who are in need of professional help with recovery and resolving issues. Therapists are trained in medical and behavioural sciences to treat diagnosable conditions.
Coaching can be helpful if you feel like you’re in a ditch. Therapy can be helpful if you feel like you’re in a hole.

3. Who can use a coach?

Just about anybody! If you feel stuck and the things you’re currently doing aren’t working, coaching can help! If you’re starting from scratch and just don’t know where or how to begin, coaching can help! If you don’t even know where it is that you want to move forward to but you know you want to create a change, coaching can help! Coaching clients are individuals who choose to work with a coach to make more progress towards their goals and dreams than they would on their own.

4. Is coaching confidential?

Absolutely 100%! The trust that is built in the co-creative relationship between the client and the coach is a large part of what makes the client feel safe and supported. You can be certain that our sessions together as well as any correspondence outside of our sessions will be strictly confidential.

5. Is coaching done by phone or in person?

I coach by phone. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere for both the client and the coach and there’s no travel time. Coaching by phone allows for less distractions and more opportunity for both the coach and client to be in the moment.

6. How long is a coaching session?

A single session runs 45 minutes. Solutions and action steps can sometimes be discovered before the 45 minutes are over and the client may feel complete with the agenda at that time. If this is the case the client may decide to begin a new topic for the remainder of their session time or they may simply choose to end the session as is. (Note: If the client chooses to end the session before the 45 minutes are over any time remaining will not be added to other upcoming sessions nor will there be any reimbursement of fees paid.)

7. How frequent are sessions?

How often a client chooses to have a session will depend on what they’re wanting to accomplish as well as their schedule. Having a coaching session once a week or once every other week is optimal in the beginning of the client’s coaching.

8. For how long does a person need coaching?

In the beginning I recommend and encourage my clients to commit to three months of coaching. This consistency helps my clients to get the most out of their coaching experience. After this time they can re-evaluate where they are at and rebook accordingly.

9. What happens in a coaching session?

Each session begins with the client sharing their agenda or topic with the coach. The agenda is clarified by the coach and the exploration to find a solution begins. The coach listens and asks questions based on what the client says. Through the client’s responses the session moves in a direction to help the client gain new insight and choices for moving forward. Towards the end of the session action steps and a time frame in which to complete them are both decided upon by the client. The coach will generally ask the client who they will ask to hold them accountable to their action steps. Often the client will ask the coach to hold them accountable either by e-mail or in the next session.
